City Sightseeing in Visby

Visby can be appreciated as much for the depth of its fascinating historical significance, as its modern day charm as a clean, very pretty, small city in which parks, gardens and flowers abound. It´s uniqueness lies in the fact that the medieval part of the city is surrounded by the still intact, massive City Wall.

The walk starts at Hamnplan opposite the Gotland Active Store at 11am and proceeds to nearby Almedalen, a lush park in Visby's former harbour area. Today, Almedalen is well-known as the venue of Sweden's annual Politician's Week. The walk continues along Strandgatan, past the medieval warehouses, and on to Gunpowder Tower (Kruttornet). It stops at Fisherman's Lane (Fiskargränd), Visby's most photographed location, and the Botanical Gardens, an oasis with exotic trees and inspiring plant beds.
The tour visits several of Visby's church ruins with their long, exciting history, and the beautiful S:ta Maria Cathedral. It finishes at 1.30pm at Donnersplats in the centre of Visby, from where you have close access to more views, sights, shopping and cafés.
